Get Your Allergy Drops
An exciting treatment is now available for anyone suffering from a broad range of allergies, including those caused by dust, pollen, mold, animals and certain foods.
What Are Allergy Drops?
Allergy Drop Therapy (sublingual drop immunotherapy) is a simple treatment administered in the comfort of your own home. It is wonderful for children and anyone who does not want to endure the pain and inconvenience of going to a doctor’s office for weekly allergy injections.
Dr. James T. Bishop, MD of Holland, Michigan was the first in the Holland area to offer this newer treatment technology. He says this:
Allergy drops are a great improvement in the treatment of allergy patients. They are amazingly effective, make allergy treatment much easier for people and for the treatment of allergic kids; it’s a no-brainer. The drops are are really great!
Although Allergy Drops are usually used for the treatment of respiratory allergies, Dr. Bishop also uses Food Allergy Drops to help food-sensitive patients ease their cravings and symptoms.
Most of my patients that have weight issues are allergic to the very foods they crave. The drops help them during those first few days when getting off the food is difficult. It also helps when they have ‘challenge’ meals later on.
How Do I Use Allergy Drops?
This method consists of a placing a few drops of allergy vaccine underneath your tongue the first thing in the morning. Like allergy shots, the active ingredients in the drops are customized to the patients’ allergies and use the same allergy antigens.
It is also similar to allergy shot treatment in that it helps build your body’s tolerance to certain allergens over time. However, no painful shots are involved. It also allows your maintenance dose to be reached two to three times faster, meaning faster relief from your symptoms.
Are Allergy Drops Convenient?
Much more convenient for the patient, Allergy Drops eliminate the need for weekly office visits, which for most patients is a significant burden. It is very difficult to stop whatever you are doing, drive to the doctor’s office during working hours, wait to get the shot, get it, wait the required 20 minutes (to be sure you don’t have a bad reaction to the shot), then drive back home or to work. That just takes up a huge amount of time, which most folks don’t have to spare.
Are Allergy Drops Safe?
Allergy Drop Therapy has been used safely around the world for more than 60 years and recently has had increased interest in the United States. The World Health Organization (WHO) has endorsed allergy drops and the treatment has recently been approved by the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.
Allergy Drop Therapy is proving to be a wonderful alternative to allergy shots. Most patients need only a few office visits the first year, and then once every 6-12 months until the therapy is no longer needed. Many patients also find that they need less medication to control their symptoms. They simply feel better, resulting in less time lost from work and school.
